A rumor is suggesting that The Flash won’t just be up against one new villain in his standalone movie, he’ll be up against a Rogue’s gallery. That’s according to Heroic Hollywood, who says that the villains will be The Rogues. That’s the name for a loosely affiliated group of criminals that have harassed him for decades, with a group starting to use that name back during the Silver Age of Comics. Originally formed by a group of convicts after they were broken out of jail by the one and only Gorilla Grodd (who at DC do we have to convince that a mind-controlling hyper-intelligent ape is the way to go for their grimdark films?), everyone from Captain Cold to The Top to Captain Boomerang. Most recently new groups have appeared with the New 52 and Injustice: Gods Among Us, so which specific one the film uses would be completely up in the air.In the TV show, The Rogues are already all over the place. Captain Cold and Heat Wave have both caused him troubles in the last two seasons, and Mirror Master is set to appear in the upcoming third.Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin) will star in The Flash as the titular character. After a brief cameo in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice he will also show up in next year’s Justice League movie, giving us plenty of Flash to enjoy.Rick Famuyiwa, director of the utterly fantastic Dope, is on the project after original director (and zombie mashup enthusiast) Seth Grahame-Smith left after creative differences. Production is expected to start later this year from Grahame-Smith’s script with a planned theatrical release date of March 16, 2018.
