Benzema has enjoyed an excellent season – he has scored 26 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions. The Frenchman helped Real to win the LaLiga title, and there could be further silverware to come as Zinedine Zidane’s side go for glory in the Champions League. However, Real have work to do if they are to progress to the quarter-finals as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Manchester City in the first leg of their last-16 tie. The sides will do battle again at the Etihad Stadium on August 7. Despite enjoying a successful career, Benzema has yet to win the prestigious prize, which has largely been dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent years, with Luka Modric the only other player to win it since 2008. Benzema stressed that he is always seeking to be the best but won’t drive himself crazy over the award. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Benzema said: ‘Sure, all the time, from my childhood, but it’s not something that drives me crazy. You always think of the Ballon d’Or when you are a professional footballer and when you are competitive. ‘I never try to define myself by my playing position, as a number nine or not a number nine, as 10 or 11; I am a football player and I try to be the best player in the world.’ There won’t be a winner this year, with the award having been called due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.Advertisement

Latest, day three: Lancashire 302-8 dec lead Middlesex 214 by 88 runs Lancashire 6 pts, Middlesex 3 ptsMiddlesex came within an over of guaranteeing Division One survival only for veteran Lancashire skipper Glen Chapple to hit a six to keep his side alive in a gripping relegation decider.Amid dramatic scenes at Old Trafford, Middlesex steadily turned the screw on the hosts, who required seven runs in the 110th over of the innings to secure the extra bonus point needed to avoid dropping out of the top flight. But 40-year-old Chapple smashed the first ball of that Toby Roland-Jones over for six over midwicket and then got three off the next delivery, giving themselves a real shot at sending the visitors down instead. They instantly declared, 88 runs ahead on first innings, and Middlesex now need to avoid defeat to stay up.Resuming on 259-6, Lancashire knew they had to score 41 runs from the first 14 overs of the day, without losing three wickets, to ensure this absorbing clash would go to the wire.Tim Murtagh looked to have nudged Middlesex closer to safety when he took two wickets in successive overs. He first had Luke Proctor lbw for 42, although replays showed the ball had pitched outside leg stump, and trapped Simon Kerrigan without scoring. One more wicket would have given Middlesex an additional bowling bonus point that would have left Lancashire unable to overhaul them. But number 10 Tom Bailey dug in, surviving a top edge that fell just short of wicket-keeper John Simpson and twice diving into his crease on scrambled singles. At the other end, Middlesex allowed Chapple singles at the start of several overs to give themselves five balls at the tailender Bailey. The two lower order batsmen chipped away at the runs but Murtagh and Roland-Jones tightened things up as the crucial 110th over, when final bonus points are calculated, neared.Chapple had the last word, though, with an astonishingly bold swipe over the rope, and with a healthy lead and helpful bowling conditions, Lancashire may now consider themselves favourites.Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebook
The 2019 NBA All-Star Game last weekend got the league’s attention for a number of reasons. Stephen Curry’s Charlotte homecoming, Kevin Durant teaming up with Boston guard Kyrie Irving and Lakers forward LeBron James playing with (future teammate?) Pelicans center Anthony Davis. But the real intrigue, at least for Warriors reporter Logan Murdock and columnist Dieter Kurtenbach, was the alley-oop off the bounce from Curry to Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and the ramifications of the play …
A financial framework “that stands out among corporate and airline peers” has helped Qantas gain a coveted credit upgrade by ratings agency Moody’s.Moody’s announced Monday that the Australian carrier’s credit rating has been upgraded from Baa3 to Baa2. Both ratings are investment grade.“While we expect Qantas’ credit metrics to remain fairly stable for the next 12-18 months, the upgrade reflects our greater focus on qualitative factors,’’ Moody’s vice president- senior credit officer Ian Chitterer said in the upgrade announcement. “This includes the unique traits of the Australian continent and airline market, Qantas Group’s strong domestic position, and diversification provided by the loyalty program.”We also factor in the reduction in credit risk through its hedging policy and financial framework. Working in tandem, they help to reduce earnings volatility and increase the predictability of management’s response to market conditions.’’Qantas earlier this month predicting another bumper full-year underlying pre-tax profit of $A1.35 billion to $A1.4 billion, making it the second highest in the airline’s history. The airline said it had seen an improving performance from its domestic operations and a “slight moderation” in the challenging conditions facing it in the international market. Its forecast compared to an underlying profit of $A1.53 billion and a net profit of $1.03 billion in 2015-16.In its decision to upgrade Qantas, Moody’s took into account the “unique” dynamics of the Australian market, including an airline duopoly with budget airline subsidiaries reducing the chances of a new domestic competitor and significant distances between cities. It noted Qantas had a domestic capacity share of 62 per cent and raked in 86 per cent of the available pre-tax earnings in the market.“With its greater scale, far higher margins and a significantly stronger balance sheet, Qantas is in a very strong competitive position,’’ it said. The upgrade also reflected the stable earnings of Qantas Loyalty, which accounted for about 20 per cent of group pre-tax eearnings in2016 with management predicting growth of 7 to 10 per cent for the next five years.Moody’s also liked the airline’s fuel hedging strategy because it reduced cash flow volatility and gave the business time to adjust fuel spikes.“Qantas’ publicly articulated financial framework stands out among corporate and airline peer,’’ Moody’s said. “The stipulation of maximum net debt levels and forward-looking nature of the framework will trigger pre-emptive actions in the event of sustained fuel-cost increases or operational weakness.’’The credit agency said a further upgrade was considered unlikely unless Qantas changed its financial framework to target a debt to earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) ratio of around two times but this was not expected. It would look at a downgrade if that same ratio exceeded three times but it noted it was expected to remain below this level.
26 March 2013 Chinese mobile technology company Huawei has announced the launch of its first South African call centre to provide Huawei Device customers with local support. “The creation of this call centre is a result of Huawei’s growth in the South African market and is part of our entry strategy into the consumer space with our new smartphone offerings,” Huawei Device South Africa general manager Larking Huang said in a statement on Tuesday. The call centre, which can be contacted on 0860 861 111, will handle queries regarding Huawei smartphones, home gateways, tablets and mobile broadband “to provide customers with user-friendly mobile device experiences”, the company said. Huawei Device customers will still have the support facility available through their network service providers where the warranty for their products sit, the company said; the call centre will offer additional technical support over and above what is offered through the operators. “We have an ongoing commitment to put great technology within reach for more people around the world,” Huang said. “Having our own local call centre now enables users to receive direct feedback from Huawei on any queries they may have. This reduces the amount of time in which queries are processed, resulting in increased customer satisfaction.” SAinfo reporter
DV Awareness Month Graphic By: Jason Jowers, M.S. MFT Return to article. Long DescriptionU.S. Air Force [DV Awareness Month by Jessica Hines, October 21, 2011, CC0]October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Talking about domestic and dating violence is one of the hardest subjects to broach when talking with clients. Many times it is kept secretive and elicits feelings of shame for those who have experienced it. How can we make it easier to talk about, not just for adults in abusive relationships, but for children in these families and especially, for teens who might be facing issues of dating violence as well? With this in mind, we wanted to highlight the history of this awareness month, as well as share some resources we found to be helpful in giving teens and parents the tools for support. According to this dating violence blog, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month first began in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Since then, the Violence Against Women Act was passed in 1994, and this legislation helped to provide programs and services for domestic violence victims and families. Great strides have been made in various realms of society to lessen the overall rate of domestic violence instances. However, it is still an ongoing problem that has only morphed with the times and moved onto the internet and within social media with cyber-stalking situations.Domestic violence affects millions of people worldwide. Here are a few resources and organizations that we would like to highlight when it comes to the important work of preventing domestic violence:The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence has this blog series on important topics and therapeutic support in dealing with DV.The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence has resources on engaging the media and training links for clinicians.Learn more about ways to take action against DV and preventing sexual assault from the No More Campaign.Futures Without Violence has many great resources on various topics related to domestic violence such as: family violence issues, human trafficking, workplace safety, and sexual assault prevention college campuses.Break the Cycle has lots of great info on how to help and take action against domestic violence. Finally, The Institute for Family Violence Studies at Florida State University has a plethora of resources, research publications, and trainings when working with families to build resilience.Hopefully with the right amount of support, we can all do our part to help raise awareness in helping those who are dealing with domestic and dating violence.ReferencesBreak the Cycle (2019). By Barbara O’Neill, Ph.D., CFP®, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, [email protected] the exception of policemen and firemen, nobody puts themselves in harm’s way for their job more often than service members. Thus, it is not surprising that Personal Financial Management (PFM) program staff often counsel military families about estate planning. An “estate” is everything that people own in their own name or with others. Estate planning is the process of anticipating future life events (e.g., incapacity and death), minimizing gift and estate taxes, and distributing assets to loved ones in the manner that a donor intends rather than according to the dictates of state law.Estate planning should, ideally, be started in young adulthood upon the purchase of assets and/or the formation of a family. Comprehensive estate plans typically include four or five complimentary documents: a will, durable power of attorney (names an agent to make financial decisions), living will, health-care proxy (names an agent to make medical decisions), and, sometimes, one or more trusts.Photo by icon0.com from PexelsBelow are five estate planning tips to share with service members:Write a Will- Ask people to serve in key positions, such as executor and guardian, before you name them in a will. People who die intestate (without a will) default to the “one size fits all” will provided by their state of residence. This property distribution formula may or may not be appropriate for their family’s situation, but there is no choice in the matter. The cost of a will should not be an issue. If someone is prepared with a list of their personal representatives, bequests, and beneficiaries, a will can cost less than $300.Review Estate Planning Documents Regularly- Review and revise documents when tax laws change or due to changes in relationships or economic circumstances. Beneficiary designations on retirement savings plans and life insurance policies also need to be reviewed periodically to make sure that they are current and not in conflict with provisions in a will or other legal document.Avoid Conflicts in Titling of Assets– Don’t make the mistake of wanting assets to go to one person (e.g., a child from a first marriage) named in a will, yet owning them with rights of survivorship with someone else (e.g., a second spouse). In cases where provisions in a deceased person’s will conflict with titling of assets, the title almost always determines the asset’s subsequent owner.Make Plans for Untitled Personal Property- Consider how you will distribute items where ownership is not identified with a written document. Examples include tools, furniture, books, dishes, collections, and jewelry. Talking about untitled property can be “sensitive” because of the emotions involved, sentimental meanings attached to various possessions, and differing perceptions of what’s fair in the distribution process. There are several ways that untitled personal property can be distributed including lists given to a person’s executor or family members, gifts made during a donor’s lifetime, drawing names out of a hat, verbal promises, and labeling items. For additional information, visit the University of Minnesota’s Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate? Web site at yelowpieplate.umn.edu.Drafting a Durable Power of Attorney- Name an “agent” to handle financial matters in the event of your incapacity. Without one, it may be necessary for your family to seek court appointment as a guardian or conservator if you become incapacitated. This appointment process can be avoided with a durable power of attorney. If properly drafted, a durable power of attorney eliminates the need for court proceedings to declare people incapacitated and to appoint a surrogate to act on their behalf. The North Carolina Extension publication Where There is a Will, There is a Way has additional information about wills and estate planning.
